The UN Sustainable Development Goals

The UN Sustainable Development Goals were developed by the United Nations (UN) to guide companies, countries and communities to build a better world by 2030.

There are 17 UN SDGs, each addressing an urgent issue facing our people and planet. They are tangible goals and Better Packaging Co. is firmly focused on developing products and systems to support them and prove that you can do immense good AND have a profitable business at the same time.

When we talk about "packaging packed with impact" this is what we mean!

SDGs No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10 - No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health & Wellbeing, Quality Education, Affordable & Clean Energy, Decent Work & Economic Growth, Reduced Inequalities

According to estimations of UNEP, 3.5 billion people don’t have access to proper waste management services – this is nearly half of the world’s population. Especially in low-income countries, the collection of recyclables depends almost entirely on the informal sector. Informal waste workers are amongst society’s most marginalized groups with no recognition of their valuable services, often being deprived access to sustainable income sources and basic social services.

By paying collectors adequate remuneration (and ensuring no child labour is used) to collect Ocean Bound Plastic we raise their living standards. We also work with collectors and their communities to provide clean energy and education. Our primary focus is frontline communities in low-income countries.

SDG No. 6 Clean Water & Sanitation
Plastic pollution in waterways is a major sanitation risk. By working with frontline communities to clean up their drainage channels and waterways, we improve the quality of their water and make living conditions more sanitary.

SDG No.9 Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure
Creating demand for recycled plastics encourages investment in recycling innovation and infrastructure in frontline communities.

SDG No. 11 Sustainable Cities & Communities
Circular, low carbon solutions are the only way to a truly sustainable future for society.

SDG No. 12 Responsible Consumption & Production
POLLAST!C is unique in that the more it is used/consumed, the more positive impact is made therefore offering brands/companies the opportunity to ‘do good’ through commerce.

SDG No. 13 Climate Action
Recycling plastic can save up to 75% GHGs compared to using virgin plastic for the same application. By making packaging from waste that would otherwise be burnt, the emissions that would be generated from entering the atmosphere are prevented. Plastics in the ocean hinder its ability to act as a carbon sink and the ability of phytoplankton to sequester carbon. POLLAST!C prevents more plastic from entering the ocean.

SDG No. 14 Life Below Water
Plastics in the ocean are a threat to marine life, aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity. POLLAST!C prevents more plastic from doing harm to marine life.
