POLLAST!C is a range of packaging made from recycled Ocean bound Plastic pollution rescued from coastal communities throughout Southeast Asia.

HOW DOES POLLAST!C CLEAN UP THE ENVIRONMENT?

Every year 8-12 million tonnes of plastic pollution enters the ocean because there is little incentive for that plastic to be collected instead of dumped or littered. That’s where POLLAST!C comes in. By recycling plastic pollution into packaging that businesses need, we are able to pay people in these communities to collect it for us and keep it out of nature!

WHAT IS POLLAST!C MADE FROM?

POLLASTIC is made from recycled plastic pollution rescued from the environment in Southeast Asia. It is certified as Ocean Bound Plastic - plastic that meets the following criteria;

  •  has been abandoned
  •  in an area with no formal waste management infrastructure
  •  is within 50km of the coast

A SOCIAL SOLUTION TO PLASTIC POLLUTION

Pollution and poverty are often inextricably linked – and in the communities where we work, waste management infrastructure is often non-existent. Plastic rubbish is usually littered, burnt or buried (in piles for livestock and dogs to ferret in).

By working closely and responsibly with communities in these areas, we can help them clean up their environment AND have positive social impact. When we commit to purchasing the plastic pollution they collect, we provide a consistent source of income and help raise their standards of living.

SUPER LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT

Independent Life Cycle Analysis has shown POLLAST!C mailers to be the lowest carbon form of packaging currently commercially available.

They have a CO₂ footprint 75% less than that of a traditional plastic mailer and 30% less even than 100% recycled paper.

FAQ

The answer depends on what recycling is available to you locally. If you have soft plastic or plastic bag recycling, then please put POLLAST!C packaging in that. If not, then landfill is best. While landfill isn’t ideal, it’s a much better place for this plastic than where it was before we collected and recycled it – in nature.

Yes, a little. It depends on the product. Transparent packaging like ziplock bags, poly bags and pallet wrap has a very slight grey tinge and if you look carefully you might be able to see imperfections in the film. POLLAST!C mailing satchels will often have a slightly rougher feel than you would ordinarily expect which means that there are sometimes white dots on the printed finish where the ink hasn’t been able to grab.

POLLAST!C Packaging is better than compostable packaging in almost every way.

1. It has a significantly lower carbon footprint.

2. It does not require any non-renewable resources to make it (compostable packaging contains PBAT derived from petroleum).

3. It doesn’t have a shelf-life so won’t be wasted if it expires (as compostable does)

4. It performs better – it’s stronger and labels adhere better.

5. Its production leaves the world a better place by cleaning up the environment!
